Nigerian skit maker Cute Abiola has publicly apologised to former First Lady Patience Jonathan over how she was previously mocked when she expressed emotional concern about rising insecurity and kidnapping cases in Nigeria during her time in office.
In a post shared on Instagram, the entertainer reflected on past reactions from Nigerians who ridiculed Patience Jonathan’s emotional responses whenever she spoke about violent incidents affecting families across the country.
He noted that those reactions, which were once widely criticised online, are now being re-evaluated in light of continued insecurity challenges in parts of the country. According to him, what was once seen by some as excessive emotion is now understood by many as genuine concern for victims.
Cute Abiola expressed regret over the way she was treated at the time and appreciated her for speaking out despite public criticism. He also extended sympathy to families currently affected by insecurity across the country.
He wrote in part:
“MUMMY! We are sorry. Years ago, when you cried on national television over the pain, bloodshed, and kidnapping of innocent children, you were speaking from a place of deep concern. You felt the pain of victims and their families. Today, many now realise those tears were not weakness but humanity.
“We are sorry for the ridicule. Thank you for caring. May God comfort every affected family and restore peace to our nation.”
