Dallas, Texas – The recently concluded THE AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL, TAFF witnessed the triumph of the film “DARK CLOUDS” in the highly competitive category of Best Young Talent. The film, produced and directed by the promising Nigerian filmmaker Kemi Adekomi, received accolades during the event, where Adekomi herself was present to accept the award.
“DARK CLOUDS” addresses the critical issue of child sexual abuse, shedding light on the dangers it poses and showcasing the appropriate consequences for offenders. In addition, the film also tackles the subject of domestic violence, making it a comprehensive production with a runtime of approximately 50 minutes.
Having gained recognition and multiple accolades, “DARK CLOUDS” has been actively showcased in secondary schools across Nigeria. Kemi Adekomi, through her NGO called OLUKEMI ADVOCACY MOVE AGAINST CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE INITIATIVE (MACSA), ensures that the film is screened free of charge to students. Following the screening, the team engages in brief interactive sessions with the children, aiming to guide them through the film’s themes and address any questions they may have. As a further gesture of encouragement, the students receive gifts during these interactive sessions, leaving a lasting impact on their minds.
Reflecting on the film’s success, Kemi Adekomi expressed her satisfaction, stating, “Although I do not derive financial gain from this non-commercial film, the multiple awards it has received and its recognition in film festivals bring me a sense of fulfillment. It is truly rewarding to witness the film fulfill its primary purpose of positively impacting the lives of children.”
