Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has received the Outstanding Governor Award for the North-West from the Daily Times Nigeria as part of the newspaper’s centenary celebration.
Governor Lawal received the honour at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards, held in Abuja to mark the 100th anniversary of Daily Times Nigeria, one of Nigeria’s oldest newspapers.
The governor was recognised for his leadership, public service and contributions to national development, following a nomination and public voting process conducted for the awards.
Chairman of the Times Heroes Awards Council, Bolaji Okusaga, said Governor Lawal emerged as the recipient after recording the highest number of nominations and votes in the North-West governor category.
“Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category,” Okusaga said.
He added that the Times Heroes Award Council and other stakeholders subsequently confirmed Lawal’s selection in recognition of his leadership, public service and contribution to national development.

Reacting to the award, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the Board, Management and Organising Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council and Nigerians who supported his nomination.
Lawal said the recognition reinforced his commitment to promoting good governance and effective public service in Zamfara State.
Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.
Daily Times Nigeria said all recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards would be featured among the outstanding individuals and institutions profiled in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book.
According to the newspaper, the publication will serve as a national commemorative volume documenting the people, institutions and achievements that have contributed to Nigeria’s development over the past century.
Daily Times Nigeria was first published in 1926 and has reported on Nigeria’s political, economic, social and cultural development for 100 years.
The foreword to the Nigerian Grand Book was written by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
