The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogated the Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Sijibomi Ogundele, over an alleged diversion of N5.7 billion belonging to Enugu State on Monday. The Sujimoto CEO was thoroughly questioned for hours at EFCC’s Abuja office, with the interrogations extending well into the night.
The CEO’s personal and company accounts have been frozen pending the outcome of a preliminary investigation.
The fraud case is connected to a contract worth more than N11 billion was awarded to Sujimoto by the Enugu State Government. Even though the government initially approved a 30 percent mobilisation, Sijibomi reportedly asked for fifty percent to speed up the completion process, which prompted the state to release a whopping N5.7 billion.
However, authorities later accused Sijibomi of delivering a value of work that was worth around N750 million. They alleged that the contractor completely ignored the site and evaded responsibility, which led to a formal petition to the EFCC.
After refusing to honour several invitations, Sijibomi was declared wanted. Before he showed up, EFCC operatives and state officials inspected the project site.
A source at the anti-graft agency eventually confirmed the contractor’s surrender. “He has been with us for more than 10 hours. We have frozen all accounts linked to him and his company and seized his passport to restrict movement,” the source said, noting that Sijibomi was not granted bail.
According to EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, investigators are still questioning the developer as of Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Reacting, Sijibomi Ogundele shared a clip to insist that he is not guilty. With tears in his eyes, he described the case as a contractual disagreement with the Enugu State Government, not a criminal case.
“I’m not a thief, I’m not a fugitive. This was a contract between my company and the Enugu State Government. I was going there every week to work on the project,” he added.
The investigation remains ongoing as of the time of this report.
