Nigerian leaders across political, religious, and traditional institutions have urged citizens to embrace peace, tolerance, and unity as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called on Nigerians to uphold the values of patience, kindness, and neighbourliness learned during Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season, stressing that these virtues are essential for nation-building. Speaking after Eid prayers in Lagos, the President noted that peace and security are collective responsibilities, urging citizens to remain vigilant and support efforts to safeguard the country.

He emphasized that acts of charity, compassion, and good conduct should extend beyond the fasting period, adding that national development depends on unity and harmonious coexistence among citizens.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who observed prayers in Maiduguri, assured Nigerians that the federal government is intensifying efforts to tackle insecurity. He expressed optimism that ongoing security measures would soon yield positive results and restore stability across the country, while urging citizens to remain patient and united.

In Sokoto, the Sultan of Sokoto encouraged Nigerians to sustain prayers for peace and national progress. He highlighted the importance of unity, love, and continued spiritual devotion, expressing confidence that the country would overcome its challenges.

Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and called for a renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence. The association urged Nigerians to use the occasion as a turning point toward unity and national healing amid economic and security challenges.

Across the states, governors echoed similar sentiments, urging citizens to sustain the virtues of discipline, sacrifice, and compassion learned during Ramadan. They stressed the need for collective responsibility in addressing insecurity and promoting national development.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordered nationwide deployment of security personnel and tactical assets to ensure a peaceful celebration. The police heightened surveillance at prayer grounds, highways, and public spaces, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

In various Eid messages, political leaders, clerics, and public figures also emphasized the importance of unity across religious and ethnic lines, noting that Nigeria’s diversity remains a strength that must be nurtured.

They collectively called on Nigerians to continue demonstrating love, tolerance, and mutual respect beyond the festive period, stressing that sustainable peace and progress depend on shared responsibility and commitment from all citizens.
