Nollywood actor and House of Representatives aspirant Emeka Ike on Monday protested at the Abuja office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over what he described as irregularities in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for the Abuja Municipal Area Council seat.
The protest, which briefly disrupted activities at the commission’s office in Abuja, saw the actor expressing strong dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the primary election.
Ike, who is contesting under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), accused officials of unfair practices and insisted he would not remain silent over what he believes was a flawed process.
“We don’t have an address when the election is going on. I am an aspirant, I’m a Nigerian,” he said during the protest.
“You won’t go away with this. I don’t do social media activism. INEC will not escape this.”
Earlier, Ike had publicly declared his ambition to contest the House of Representatives seat for the Bwari/AMAC Federal Constituency, stating his desire to bring change through active political participation.
He said he decided to move into politics after years in the entertainment industry, stressing that Nigerians must become more involved in electoral processes.
“I’m running for the Federal House of Representatives under Bwari/AMAC Constituency in Abuja,” he said. “We need to make a federal statement.”
He also urged Nigerians to take responsibility for national change, calling on eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in elections.
“I’m not angry at politicians anymore. I’m angry at Nigerians. Go and collect your PVCs. That’s the only noise we need right now,” he added.
