Nollywood actor-turned-lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has spoken up about a scary experience that almost took his life during the 2020 EndSARS protests.
He recently shared how he narrowly escaped a dangerous attack by unidentified assailants.
Speaking during an interview on Nollywood On Radio, the politician said it all started when he got trapped in his Surulere constituency office due to the government-imposed curfew, forcing him to decide to spend the night there since he could not go home.
According to him, he was feeling quite secure and watching TV before things took a frightening turn. Desmond revealed that he suddenly heard his landlady’s daughter screaming outside his side of the building, before a bottle filled with fuel and fire was thrown into his office, setting it ablaze.
“When there was curfew during the EndSARS period, a lot of bad boys came into Surulere and because of the curfew, I could not go home.
I was stuck in Lekki, so I could not go home and had to go back to my office in Surulere.
I was inside my office and never knew there was going to be anything, so I was watching the TV in my office because I had the intention to spend the night there.
Next thing, I heard my landlady’s daughter screaming, saying I don’t stay there. When I knew there was a problem was when a bottle with fuel and fire was thrown into my office and it caught fire,” he said.
The Nollywood actor recalled how he immediately called the chief of staff on phone to ask for help because he had never been so scared in his life.
“I had to call the chief of staff for help. I have never been so scared in my life, it was horrible,” he added.
The lawmaker’s traumatic experience is a stark reminder of the disaster that unfolded across Nigeria during the EndSARS protests. The protest went as far as trending all over the world as frustrated citizens fought back against bad leadership, blatant corruption and election malpractice.
