Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has officially taken office as a senator in Colombia after securing a seat in the country’s March 2026 parliamentary elections.
Ortiz, widely known by her former stage name Amaranta Hank, won election on a platform advocating stronger legal protections and improved rights for workers in the adult entertainment industry.
Representing the Norte de Santander region, she will serve in the Colombian Senate for the 2026–2030 legislative term as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition, the country’s largest political alliance.
During the elections, Ortiz ranked 23rd on the coalition’s closed candidate list. According to official election figures from Colombia’s National Registry, the Historic Pact secured 22.72 percent of the total Senate vote, earning more than 4.4 million votes and winning 25 seats in the upper chamber.
Ortiz’s election has drawn widespread attention because of her previous career in the adult entertainment industry and her decision to openly discuss her past while pursuing public office.
‘My Past Does Not Define My Ability to Serve’
Before entering the adult film industry, Ortiz worked as a journalist. She has consistently argued that her previous profession should not prevent her from serving the public or contributing to national development.
She has maintained that women involved in the sexual economy deserve legal recognition and protection, stressing that they contribute to Colombia’s economy and should not face discrimination or social stigma.
Responding to critics questioning her suitability for office, Ortiz shared a video on TikTok asking why a woman with a background in the adult entertainment industry should be barred from contesting elected positions.
In the video, she said:
“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?”
Beyond advocating for the rights of adult entertainment workers, Ortiz has pledged to focus on issues such as mental health, sexual abuse prevention, and broader social welfare reforms during her time in the Senate.
Her emergence in national politics has become one of Colombia’s most discussed political developments, sparking debate over inclusion, representation, and public perceptions of candidates with unconventional backgrounds.
The latest development follows an earlier controversy in Colombia after Ortiz and another former adult performer, Juan Carlos Florián, were appointed as deputy ministers in the country’s Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro, a move that also generated nationwide debate over public appointments and qualifications.
