Rising Nollywood actress Eyiyemi Afolayan has declared she cannot marry a man who is not already financially established, warning that men who acquire wealth after marriage often become unfaithful or disrespectful to the women who supported them.
The daughter of celebrated filmmaker Kunle Afolayan made the remarks in an interview with BBC Yoruba, where she spoke candidly about her expectations in marriage and relationships.
“I can’t build with a man. You know men — they are ingrates. If I marry a man that doesn’t have money and he sees money, he will stay with me not because he loves me, but because he doesn’t have the money to be going around to be promiscuous,” she said.
Eyiyemi, who starred in the hit film Anikulapo, noted that her upbringing shapes her standard. “I was born into wealth. Any man who wants to marry me must be doing something for himself. I can’t be feeding him, but I can support him,” she added.
The actress also ruled out polygamy entirely, saying she would never accept being a second or third wife — not out of jealousy, but because of the complications such arrangements bring.
“A polygamous home comes with a lot of troubles,” she said.
