Former Big Brother Naija winner and Nollywood actress, Mercy Eke, has revealed that despite the life-changing opportunities the reality show brought her, she sometimes regrets taking part because of the challenges that accompanied fame.
Speaking during a recent episode of Toke Moments, hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa, Mercy explained that adjusting to life after leaving the BBNaija house was far more difficult than she expected.
According to the reality TV star, while the show opened doors to numerous opportunities and transformed her career, the constant public attention and scrutiny have made life overwhelming.
Reflecting on her personal life, Mercy admitted that finding a life partner since gaining fame has not been easy.
She said she often falls deeply in love and has financially supported some of the men she dated, only to be disappointed.
“I regret going to Big Brother even though I love the benefits that come from it. I dey fall in love like mumu. Now I tell myself I want to marry, but it’s not easy. I have dated guys that I have given a lot of money to—not one, not two—because they didn’t have,” she said.
Mercy also disclosed that she eventually relocated abroad in a bid to begin a new chapter, where she had to adapt to a different lifestyle and work environment.
The actress further spoke about the pressures of living in the public eye, noting that many people direct their frustrations at celebrities because they envy their visibility and perceived success.
According to her, public figures often become targets for criticism from individuals who wish they had the same level of recognition.
“A lot of people are living through you. I feel like that’s where the anger comes from because they wish to be you, so they channel the anger that they should have taken to God to you,” she added.
