Nollywood actress and skitmaker, Kemi Ikuseedun, a.k.a Mummy Wa, has shared some of the challenges that come with life in the public eye. She recently revealed that fame often strips entertainers of their privacy.
Speaking during an interview with Saturday Beats, she said that fans mostly blur the lines between the real person and the characters they portray.
According to her, even though she believes relationships should be kept private, being a public figure means that your personal life will always be under some form of scrutiny.
Kemi stated that only a mature and understanding partner will be able to separate Mummy Wa from who she is in real life.
“Being in the public eye means people have their own perceptions of one, sometimes from the roles one plays.
As MummyWa, I’m a wife and mother on screen, and people often forget there’s a real person behind that character.
Relationships require privacy, but being in entertainment means your personal life is always under some form of scrutiny.
It takes maturity, understanding, and a partner who can separate Kemz Mama from the character and respect both sides,” she said.
On if comedy skits always need to carry deep or intellectual messages, Kemi noted that she believes humour can teach powerful life lessons if channelled correctly.
Mummy Wa concluded by saying that while every skit shouldn’t be too serious, it’s great for viewers to learn a thing or two from her content.
“Not every skit needs to carry a heavy message. Sometimes people just want to laugh and forget their problems.
But, I believe comedy can still reflect life in a powerful way.
My own content mixes both: there’s humour, but if you look closely, you’ll see everyday struggles of marriage, family, love, and society.
So while not every skit should be an essay, it’s great when people can laugh and still say, ‘Wow, that’s so true.’” she added.
