Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has issued a stern warning to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, vowing to make him pay politically for what he described as a betrayal of trust within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Fayose accused Makinde of dismantling the South-West PDP structure and taking over the political machinery he built, actions he said amounted to disrespect that would not go unanswered.
“We will teach Makinde a political lesson,” Fayose said. “If you respect me, you will get all my values and support, but if you disrespect me, you will get the downside of Fayose. I’m not a politician that is taken for granted.”
The former governor further accused Makinde of undermining the regional party structure and betraying the trust of key stakeholders. “Makinde destroyed the South-West PDP and took my structure. When we are in politics, we are meant to be fair,” he said, adding that Makinde’s move to declare a presidential ambition marked the beginning of his political missteps. “Declaring for the presidency was his undoing. He has the right to contest, but we don’t betray trust. Elections are not far away. We will get there.”
In a separate interview on EKTV, Fayose shifted focus to the 2027 presidential race, dismissing calls for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation and expressing confidence that the incumbent would comfortably defeat all opposition challengers.
Responding to social media campaigns demanding Tinubu step down over rising insecurity, Fayose described the agitators as partisan actors with vested interests. “A lot of people on social media are asking Tinubu to resign, but he still has one year left — you don’t need to fight,” he said.
He argued that Tinubu’s political resilience made him virtually unbeatable. “If the election is conducted 10 times, Tinubu will defeat all of them. Somebody whom Buhari did not support, but who struggled and emerged President, will now fold his hands and allow the opposition to take over? Even me, this little thing, will finish them,” he added.
