The Federal Government has begun accepting applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, providing opportunities for Nigerian postgraduate students to pursue advanced degrees in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, announced the programme’s commencement in a Monday statement on X.
“FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas,” the announcement read.
The scholarship board’s website indicates that MSc and PhD candidates in oil and gas-related fields are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive financial support covering tuition fees, round-trip airfare, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, and laboratory fees where necessary.
“The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise, while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector,” PTDF stated.
PhD candidates heading to the United Kingdom will participate in a split-site arrangement, conducting research at both the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna and partner UK universities, including Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.
The agency emphasized the programme’s competitive nature, stating that only candidates demonstrating exceptional merit and suitability would be selected. Academic performance, research proposals, professional affiliations, and the relevance of proposed studies to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector will determine selection outcomes.
MSc applicants must hold at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) or Second Class Upper (2.1) degree, have completed their National Youth Service Corps programme, demonstrate computer literacy, and possess a minimum of five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants must additionally submit a research proposal not exceeding five pages, outlining their research objectives, methodology, and data collection approach.
“All applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified prior to application, and multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will result in automatic disqualification,” PTDF warned.
Applications should be submitted online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for programmes at PTDF-approved partner institutions. The submission deadline is February 27.
