Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has put his newly sworn-in top aides on notice, warning them that any involvement in unauthorised meetings or conduct likely to embarrass his administration will result in immediate dismissal.
The governor issued the stark warning on Thursday at Government House in Port Harcourt, moments after Dr. Dagogo Wokoma and Mr. Sunny Ewule were formally sworn in as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Staff respectively. The oath of office was administered by David Ihua-Maduenyi, Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court.
Addressing both appointees, Fubara made clear that their new roles were a call to serve — not a platform for personal ambition or political scheming. He demanded loyalty, discipline and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of Rivers people, and left little room for ambiguity when it came to the consequences of straying from those expectations.
“If you involve yourself in nocturnal meetings or similar activities, I will sack you. I am very serious,” the governor said bluntly.
Praising Dr. Wokoma as an accomplished academic and mathematician, Fubara expressed confidence in his ability to manage the demands of the SSG’s office, which he described as requiring thoroughness, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility. He noted that completing ongoing and inherited projects in ways that move the state forward remains the administration’s central focus.
For the Chief of Staff, the governor emphasised that the role is deeply personal in nature, operates directly under his authority, and demands tight coordination of official engagements while safeguarding the reputation of Government House.
Fubara also used the occasion to address permanent secretaries who have reached retirement age, directing them to begin preparing handover notes for a smooth transition. He was quick to clarify that the directive was not meant to unsettle anyone, but stressed that his administration would not tolerate financial misconduct or last-minute irregularities, warning that accountability measures are firmly in place.
The governor closed by urging all public officials to embrace a spirit of unity, reminding them that collective achievement outlasts individual glory.
