Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved a groundbreaking milestone with her upcoming film Behind The Scenes, which has become the highest-ticketed UK premiere in history.
FilmOne, the film’s distribution company, revealed the landmark achievement on Instagram Thursday, announcing that the premiere attracted over 1,550 admissions with seven screens completely sold out in succession.
“The UK is showing BIG LOVE! Behind The Scenes just became the BIGGEST ticketed UK premiere of all time,” the distributor announced, adding that the premiere took place on December 4 at Odeon Greenwich in London.
The film, produced by Funke Akindele Network, explores profound themes centred on pain, healing, and the hidden struggles people endure in their daily lives.
Behind The Scenes boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Tobi Bakre, Iyabo Ojo, Uzor Arukwe, Uche Montana, Destiny Etiko, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Ibrahim Chatta, among others. Akindele serves dual roles as both lead actress and co-director alongside Tunde Olaoye.
Following its record-breaking London debut, the film is scheduled for its Nigerian premiere on December 7, with a nationwide theatrical release set for December 12.
