Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has given Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi 72 hours to retract allegations he made against him or face a N10 billion defamation suit.

The ultimatum is contained in a cease-and-desist letter dated July 6, 2026, signed by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, of Pinheiro LP, Gbajabiamila’s lawyers.

The letter followed a press conference Adeyemi held on June 25, 2026, where he accused Gbajabiamila of demanding 48 per cent of a take-off grant belonging to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), receiving N400 million through proxies over appointments into the organisation, and manipulating security agencies. Adeyemi also alleged that Gbajabiamila abused his office to intimidate individuals and media houses, participated in fraudulent budget processes, performed official duties while intoxicated, and was involved in murder and a cover-up.

Pinheiro LP dismissed the claims as false, malicious and unsupported by evidence, insisting Gbajabiamila has never had any personal or official contact with Adeyemi. The firm said the allegations went beyond fair political criticism and amounted to unfounded claims of criminality, corruption and abuse of office.

The lawyers noted that Adeyemi is already standing trial before the Federal High Court, Abuja, in Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/652/2026, over allegations of forging an appointment letter and presidential letterheaded documents purportedly showing he was appointed by President Bola Tinubu. They argued that some of the claims made at the press conference relate directly to that pending case, and accused Adeyemi of resorting to trial by media after being criminally charged.

Pinheiro LP is demanding that Adeyemi retract the allegations, publish a public apology in at least five national newspapers and across all platforms where the claims were shared, remove all related publications, and give a written undertaking not to repeat the allegations.

The firm warned that failure to comply within 72 hours will trigger a criminal defamation complaint under FCT law, alongside a civil suit seeking N10 billion in damages — payable to a charity of Gbajabiamila’s choice — plus a perpetual injunction and a court order compelling retraction.
