Nigeria’s House of Representatives will convene an emergency session on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to address matters stemming from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent release of the 2027 General Election timetable.
A memo from the Speaker’s Office emphasized the constitutional importance of the development and the urgency of legislative action.
House spokesperson Akin Rotimi said the emergency session demonstrates lawmakers’ commitment to addressing issues with significant implications for Nigeria’s democracy.
“The session will examine legislative matters arising from the announcement, consistent with the National Assembly’s constitutional duties. All related legislative business will be handled swiftly. Members have been urged to make attendance a priority,” Rotimi stated.
The House stressed its dedication to bolstering Nigeria’s democratic institutions through timely legislation and action that serves the national interest.
