Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has said that he was pleased to see his former club Paris Saint-Germain win the Champions League for the first time.
He recently revealed that despite leaving the club a year ago in controversial circumstances, it was never a bitter exit.
Speaking to reporters hours ago, Mbappe shared that he was happy to see PSG lift the UCL trophy because they clearly deserved to win it.
According to him, after the several hurdles the club has failed to navigate in the past UCL seasons, the club finally got it right and deservedly earned the trophy as the best team in Europe.
The French captain disclosed that he never anticipated a 5-0 result, but the margin proved the French team’s European dominance in the last campaign.
“I was happy, they deserved it, they’ve been through so many problems, I’ve been through that too. I’ve been through every stage of the Champions League except winning it.
They were the best team in Europe. I can’t remember ever seeing them go 5-0 up. It’s 100% deserved, they’re becoming the team everyone wants to beat,” he said.
Mbappe clarified that there were no hard feelings as he watched his former club win the trophy, maintaining that it still didn’t make him regret leaving PSG.
The Los Blancos striker concluded by saying that he left Paris Saint-Germain because his story was obviously over at the French club.
“PSG won the Champions League without me, that doesn’t affect me. That’s a good thing. I think we all face challenges in our careers.
I’m a bit more in the eye of the storm, which is good. I’ve always liked being in these positions, it’s up to me to work. I’ve reversed quite a few trends in my career, I’ve had a lot of things stuck on my back and I’ve managed to get them off.
Did I leave too soon? No, my story was over, it had to end. There was no bitterness, I’d reached the end of my tether,” he added.
