Popular rapper Megan Thee Stallion has opened up about her personal struggles on her path to stardom. The lyricist recently got emotional while she recalled when she realized she needed therapy.
Speaking during a sit-down with actress Taraji P. Henson at the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation’s inaugural “I Am the Table” Benefit Brunch in Maryland, Megan revealed that seeing a therapist became mandatory when she realized how sad she was.
According to her, she immediately wanted to overcome the scary sadness she was feeling at the time without caring what triggered the sadness in the first place.
Megan stated that therapy was her way of proving that she still cared about her well-being.
“Through all of that grief, I was just working and trying to be the best Megan I could be. And I didn’t know I needed therapy until one day, I was just like, ‘Damn, I’m really sad, and it’s really scary how sad I am.’ And it was like, I didn’t care what happened to me. And I didn’t want to feel like that, like I should care about my life,” she said.
Receiving her 2025 Mental Health Champion award from the LGBTQ nonprofit the Trevor Project, the rapper stressed that she’ll keep using her voice to eradicate the stigmas around mental health.
She concluded by saying that helping people find a safe space to have honest conversations about their mental health is her goal henceforth.
“I’m honored to receive this year’s Mental Health Champion award from The Trevor Project. My goal has always been to use my platform to help break stigmas around mental health and provide resources for those seeking safe spaces to have honest and heartfelt conversations,” she added.
