President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his government’s dedication to transforming Nigeria into a global agricultural force through increased mechanisation and youth engagement in farming.
He recently said that the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme would modernize farming and improve its appeal to young Nigerians.
Speaking to the press in Abuja, Tinubu revealed that the initiative involves collaborations with nations like Belarus to provide Nigerian youth with training in advanced agricultural practices, machinery maintenance, and equipment production.
According to him, more than two thousand advanced tractors, fifty bulldozers, twelve mobile workshops, and 9,000 farming tools are currently available to make farming a seamless experience for young Nigerians scattered all over the country.
“We have over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 farming tools ready. This will make farming easier, create jobs, and make it ‘sexier’ for our youths,” he said.
Stressing that the aim is to empower the youths with valuable skills that will aid self-reliance, BAT urged participants to use the provided tools wisely.
He stated that the actions of participants would be tracked and assessed closely because all hands must be on deck to ensure the initiative is a success.
He further hailed the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its contributions to addressing food insecurity and ensuring stability within the sector.
Declaring the occasion a historic milestone, President Tinubu concluded by describing it as the rebirth of farming in Nigeria.
