Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, has called on Nigeria’s newly appointed career and non-career ambassadors to work closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in promoting a positive image of the country on the global stage.
Igboho made the appeal on Saturday, urging the diplomats to utilise their professional expertise and leadership experience to excel in their various diplomatic assignments.
In a statement made available to journalists, the activist commended the president for the appointments and encouraged Nigerians, regardless of tribe, religion, political affiliation, or ethnic background, to contribute to projecting a favourable image of the country despite its current socio-economic challenges.
President Tinubu had on Friday announced the posting of 65 ambassadors and their countries of primary assignment. The announcement was conveyed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Among those named were former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who was posted to Germany; former Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole (Canada); Reno Omokri (Mexico); retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (China); Kayode Are (United States); former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodeji Oke (France); and Chioma Ohakim (Poland).
Igboho particularly welcomed the appointment of Fani-Kayode, describing it as a commendable decision. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Francis Olushola Alao, and President Tinubu’s lawyer, Oluwole Afolabi, SAN, in relation to the appointment.
According to him, the inclusion of qualified individuals from different regions, including Yoruba indigenes, in diplomatic postings is a positive step toward strengthening Nigeria’s representation abroad.
Igboho expressed confidence that the ambassadors would effectively represent the country and contribute to enhancing Nigeria’s reputation in the international community.
