The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, convened his first official conference with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Peacekeeping Conference Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The gathering brought together strategic managers for high-level discussions on institutional priorities and national security objectives.
According to Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, the inaugural conference is designed to synchronize operational directives, reinforce command responsibility, and set clear performance benchmarks for the IGP’s administration.
In his opening remarks, IGP Disu urged senior officers to lead by example, enforce discipline decisively, and maintain the highest professional and ethical standards. He announced plans to strengthen internal accountability mechanisms, including the Complaints Response Unit and the X-Squad, to ensure that no officer operates above the law.
Highlighting his commitment to intelligence-led, evidence-based, and technology-driven policing, the IGP emphasized improved coordination, enhanced intelligence capabilities, and investment in modern investigative tools as key pillars of his leadership approach.
A key highlight of the conference was the formal inauguration of the Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police. IGP Disu described the initiative as timely and strategic, given the evolving security landscape across Nigeria. He stressed that State Police is intended to complement—not replace—the Nigeria Police Force, strengthening community-oriented policing and national security governance.
The Committee is tasked with reviewing policing models within and outside Nigeria, assessing community security needs, proposing operational frameworks for State Police, addressing recruitment and training standards, and developing accountability mechanisms to ensure professionalism and public trust.
The Steering Committee includes Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, Director-General of the National Institute for Police Studies, Jabi, Abuja, as Chairman; CP Bode Ojajuni as Secretary; and members DCP Okebechi Agora, DCP Suleyman Gulma, ACP Ikechukwu Okafor, CSP Tolulope Ipinmisho, and CP Emmanuel Ojukwu (Rtd), Provost of the Police Public Relations School.
