Popular reality star Kim Kardashian has spoken out against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Los Angeles.
Recall that the raids have sparked days of protests across the United States of America.
President Donald Trump’s continuous deportations of illegal immigrants triggered mass protests in the City of Angeles on Friday, June 6.
Trump immediately deployed thousands of National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles, without California Governor Gavin Newsom’s permission, as his response to the public demonstration.
Gov. Newsom has since said that the President’s decision “inflamed a combustible situation,” confirming that the state of California has already challenged it in court.
Reacting via her Instagram Stories, Kim Kardashian stated that she has always known ICE to be an agency in charge of keeping America safe, not an organization that snatches innocent people from their families in the most horrifying manner.
According to her, immigrants have grown to become a key part of Los Angeles over the years, and she will not stay quiet while her neighbours, friends and family are being treated like criminals.
“When we’re told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals-great. But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what’s right.
Growing up in LA, I’ve seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city. They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, and family,” she wrote.
Kim further noted that it is common knowledge that LA thrives because of the contributions of immigrants; therefore, they must be protected.
The KUWTK star concluded by saying that she cannot see immigrants being stripped of their rights to live freely and stay quiet.
“No matter where you fall politically, it’s clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants. We can’t turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely. There HAS to be a BETTER way,” she added.
