Former Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has said that Nigeria is completely destroyed under President Bola Tinubu.

He recently revealed that the country is in need of total change, and Nigerians have been reacting.

Speaking in an interview after the unveiling of the interim executive of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Abuja, Amaechi shared that things have become so bad that Nigerians can’t afford to eat because there is no money to buy food.

According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are presently planning to hijack the forthcoming elections in the country, and Nigerians cannot allow that to happen.

Rotimi stated that he resigned from the APC on Tuesday night, and he is even shocked that he was not expelled from the party after he warned them not to send invitation to him for meetings.

2027 Elections: Nine Political Parties Obtain INEC Access Codes for Candidate Nominations

The Presidency has dismissed the political strength of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that President Bola Tinubu is no longer under any threat from the former Labour Party presidential candidate. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the remarks during an appearance on the *Mic On Podcast*, where he defended the Tinubu administration against criticisms from the opposition. According to Dare, while Obi may have posed a significant political challenge in the past, the current administration believes its achievements have strengthened President Tinubu’s position ahead of future elections. He also rejected calls by Obi for President Tinubu to resign, arguing that such demands have no constitutional basis. “The government is not afraid of Peter Obi. Just as he has the right to ask President Tinubu to resign, the government also has the right to tell him that the President will not resign because there is no basis for such a demand,” Dare said. He stressed that Nigeria operates a constitutional presidential system with elections held every four years, adding that the proper avenue for seeking political change is through the ballot box. Dare maintained that the administration has made measurable progress in addressing the country's challenges, insisting that its performance has earned it public confidence. According to him, the government has successfully confronted critical national issues and remains focused on delivering its mandate rather than being distracted by opposition rhetoric. The presidential aide further claimed that Obi no longer represents the political force he once did, stating that the President now stands on a stronger political footing because of his administration’s record. He concluded by expressing confidence that Obi would be unable to repeat his 2023 electoral success over Tinubu in Lagos State. “Peter Obi was a threat before, but today he is no longer a threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance. We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country. Peter Obi will not defeat President Tinubu in Lagos again,” Dare declared.

Presidency to Peter Obi: You Won’t Defeat Tinubu in Lagos Again

“No, it’s not about changing the government, if it is about changing the government, there is no need of changing the government, it’s about changing Nigeria.

Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money to buy food. Everything is gone. Inflation is at its peak. And the federal government is busy going around trying to hijack the election. INEC is helping them to hijack the election.

No, no, no. What must happen here is that we must start not just a party, but a movement, it must be a movement that brings in Nigerians to on their own take over government, not us,” he said.

Amaechi further noted that he never believed that Tinubu had what it takes to be a good president, stressing that BAT has failed the people with his inconsiderate policies that have made their lives worse.

Rotimi concluded by saying that he was shocked to hear President Tinubu say that he is not in office to make Nigerians happy.

“I left APC last night. I never attended one meeting, last time they invited me I warned them. I said, if you invite me to any meeting anymore… In fact, I was surprised that I wasn’t even expelled because I warned them in writing, don’t even invite me to any meeting. You can’t be in a club where majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything.

I have never believed that Tinubu is a material to govern the country, I have never, because now, people want (Muhammadu) Buhari to come back. What happens in Nigeria is that when a new government takes over, it becomes worse than the previous government that makes people say let the previous government come back.

People are asking for Buhari because things were better during Buhari’s administration. Dollar was I think ₦460 or five hundred and something now a dollar is one thousand five hundred and eighty, that is more than one hundred percent.

Whether it’s a deliberate government policy or not, any government that does not take into consideration the people you are governing is not a policy. President Tinubu said he is not here to make Nigerians happy,” he added.
