The National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties, Peter Ameh, has blasted Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his decision to return as governor after his suspension.
He recently revealed that Fubara’s return amounts to a surrender that undermines democratic practice.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ameh shared that he is very disappointed in Fubara for putting his return to office above his principles.
According to him, it would have made more sense if Fubara gave up his position as governor to fight for the future of the state and its people.
“For me, I’m already disappointed in Fubara that he has shown, you know, that ehm, what he wants is to get back to office.
I think he would have given it all up. It wouldn’t have been bad to fight for the future generation,” he said.
He further accused state authorities of using state instruments against the governor, stressing that Fubara was practically forced to surrender.
Ameh concluded by saying that Nigeria’s emerging democratic processes must be protected more for the country to reap the reward of democracy.
“I think he was beaten to surrender, and that is not good for our democracy… our state instrumentality of the state was deployed against him, and he surrendered.
Whether it’s a semi-democratic process, we must be able to nurture it to become a fully blown democratic system,” he added.
