The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has published comprehensive registration guidelines for candidates planning to sit for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, with the registration period scheduled between January and March 2026.
According to the announcement made through JAMB’s official X account, prospective candidates must verify that all personal information matches records held by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) before commencing registration.
Profile Code Generation Process
To generate a profile code, candidates should text their 11-digit National Identity Number to either 55019 or 66019 using the format: NIN [space] [11-digit number]. JAMB has warned that profile codes are permanent once generated, as the system automatically retrieves biographical data from NIMC’s database.
Registration Steps
The Board has outlined a four-stage registration procedure:
Centre Visit: Candidates must go to the nearest JAMB office or an accredited Computer-Based Test centre.
E-PIN Purchase: Registration PINs should only be bought through authorized channels including banks, approved vendors, and official online platforms.
Template Completion: Applicants must ensure they receive and complete the correct registration template.
Verification and Submission: All information must be thoroughly reviewed before final submission at the registration centre.
Critical Guidelines for Applicants
JAMB has issued several important requirements:
- All corrections to personal details (name, date of birth, gender, state of origin) must be completed with NIMC beforehand and confirmed on the NIMC portal
- Phone numbers and email addresses used during registration must be active, accurate, and not shared with other candidates
- Candidates facing biometric challenges should visit their nearest JAMB office
- Registration must utilize a dual-screen system allowing real-time verification of photographs and biometric data
Troubleshooting Profile Code Issues
JAMB has provided solutions for common error messages:
“Record Not Found”: Visit the nearest NIMC office for validation
“Wrong Parameter”: Resend the message using the correct format
“Your NIN has already been registered with GSM number”: Retrieve the originally registered SIM card and resend the request
“Unable to verify your NIN [NIMC: UNKNOWN]”: Wait briefly and retry
The 2026 UTME registration forms will be available for purchase throughout the January to March 2026 period.
