The Kwara State College of Education in Oro has been temporarily closed following a government directive over deteriorating security conditions in the region.
An internal memorandum issued by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology on January 20 announced the immediate shutdown of the institution. The document, referenced MOTE/CE/VOL.II/227 and obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, was signed by Commissioner for Tertiary Education Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu.
The closure order, issued under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s authority, comes in response to escalating security risks surrounding the college campus. The directive aligns with wider measures to shut down educational institutions across the affected local government area.
“This action has been taken prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of students, staff members, and residents in neighboring communities,” the memorandum stated.
According to the document, the institution will remain closed until security agencies complete a thorough assessment of the situation and the state government issues further guidance.
The ministry has instructed college administrators to implement the closure immediately and provide a compliance report without delay.
