Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised the Bola Tinubu administration over the number of aircraft in Nigeria’s Presidential Air Fleet.
Melaye described the situation as excessive, arguing that it was inappropriate for a country facing economic challenges to maintain such a large presidential fleet.
The former Kogi West senator also claimed that the Nigerian Air Force did not receive any new aircraft in 2025.
According to him, the Presidential Air Fleet has increased by five aircraft under the Tinubu administration in less than four years.
Melaye listed the aircraft as a brand-new Bombardier GL7T with registration 5N-FGY, a three-year-old Pilatus PC-24 registered as T7-FGQ, an Airbus A330 with registration 5N-FGA, and two Gulfstream G500 aircraft registered as M-FGNG and M-NGSA.
He further claimed that the government purchased three of the aircraft bearing Nigerian 5N registrations, while a private company leased two others to the government at rates that had not been disclosed.
Melaye Speaks On Opposition Coalition
Meanwhile, Melaye said opposition parties are continuing discussions aimed at forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Arise Television, he said Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) had indicated their willingness to participate in the discussions.
Melaye expressed confidence that a broad opposition alliance would emerge and challenge President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
He acknowledged that not every opposition party or politician might join the coalition but said he expected the majority to work together.
The ADC chieftain also dismissed the APC’s nationwide political structure, including its governors, lawmakers and party machinery, arguing that these advantages would not prevent Nigerians from voting against the ruling party.
Melaye attributed what he described as public dissatisfaction to issues including economic hardship and insecurity, insisting that many Nigerians were already determined to reject the APC at the polls.
He further alleged that President Tinubu was aware of the growing opposition and claimed that recent political developments were aimed at discouraging politicians from joining the opposition coalition.
