Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe Adeoti has opened up about the mixed reactions she received from family members when she decided to remarry.
In 2022, Mercy made headlines after confirming her relationship with movie marketer Kazim Adeoti, who already had four children from a previous marriage. Following weeks of speculation, the actress publicly acknowledged their union, and the couple eventually tied the knot. She later converted to Islam, adopting the Muslim name Hajia Minnah.
While the public backlash was intense, Mercy revealed that she also faced criticism from within her family. In a recent interview with her colleague Bimpe Akintunde on Iriri Mi, she shared that some family members questioned her decision, particularly because of her age.
“A lot of people, even some family members, asked me why I wanted to remarry at almost 50,” she said. “But I believe everyone knows what they want. I saw something special, and I went for it. I love having a crown (husband) on my head, and I love being married. If I had stayed with my baby daddy, I wouldn’t be known as Mercy Aigbe.”
Addressing public criticism that she controls her husband, the actress dismissed such claims as baseless. “It’s just noise,” she stated. “Look at those talking—how is their life? People only talk about those above them. If you’re not relevant, you can’t be their topic.”
Despite the controversies surrounding her marriage, Mercy Aigbe remains confident in her choices, emphasizing that she follows her heart and prioritizes her happiness.
