A high-level delegation from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, has paid an official working visit to the under-construction Gusau International Airport, signaling a potential partnership that could transform the facility into a regional center for aviation training and education.
Led by Nasir Muhammad Bungura, the NCAT team conducted a thorough inspection of the airport’s runway, terminal buildings, navigational aids, and safety systems. They were received by the Permanent Secretary of the Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Haruna Dikko Gusau, reflecting the state government’s strong interest in unlocking the airport’s full potential.
Bungura praised Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration for the quality of work done so far, describing the facility’s infrastructure and ongoing upgrades as encouraging and well-aligned with international best practices. “Gusau International Airport possesses a robust foundation,” he said, noting that the visit was specifically aimed at exploring how the airport could serve as a practical training ground for NCAT students, giving them hands-on exposure to a modern, functioning airport environment.
The delegation identified particular opportunities in safety operations, air traffic control simulations, and aircraft handling — areas where access to a real airport environment would significantly strengthen NCAT’s curriculum and the practical readiness of its graduates.
Engr. Haruna Dikko Gusau welcomed the interest, reaffirming that Governor Lawal‘s administration views the airport as a driver of economic growth and regional integration. “We are not just building infrastructure; we are creating a hub for opportunity,” he said, adding that a partnership with NCAT would meaningfully advance human capital development within Nigeria’s aviation sector.Both parties are expected to hold follow-up discussions to formalize areas of collaboration, with the possibility of NCAT utilizing the airport for specialized training exercises and curriculum development in the near future.
