Entertainment industry leaders Netflix and Comcast NBCUniversal have each committed $10 million in aid for Los Angeles-area wildfire victims. The combined $20 million pledge aims to support various relief organizations and initiatives.
Netflix’s contribution, as announced by co-CEO Ted Sarandos, will be distributed among five organizations, including World Central Kitchen and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Meanwhile, Comcast’s support includes a $2.5 million allocation to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ ReBUILD LA initiative, with the remaining funds directed to other charitable foundations supporting victims.
This latest round of corporate giving follows Disney’s recent $15 million commitment to wildfire relief charities. The donations come as Los Angeles battles devastating fires fueled by Santa Ana winds, which pose a unique threat to the region. These warm, dry winds, occurring between September and May, create dangerous fire conditions by reducing humidity and rapidly drying vegetation.
Unlike the typical Pacific winds that bring moisture to Southern California, the Santa Ana winds blow in the opposite direction, creating conditions that have historically contributed to some of the region’s most destructive wildfires.
