Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola has announced the death of her partner, Michael Ndika.
The singer shared the heartbreaking news through emotional posts on her Instagram story on Wednesday morning.
In one of the posts, she wrote, “God took him,” before later adding, “My husband died.”
She also reflected on the length of their relationship, writing, “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”
Michael Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform known for promoting afro-house and contemporary African music.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Niniola has largely kept her private life away from public attention over the years.
The 39-year-old singer rose to fame after emerging as one of the top contestants on Project Fame West Africa in 2013. She later became one of Nigeria’s prominent music stars.
Her hit song Maradona, released in 2017, brought her international recognition and opened doors for collaborations with several major artistes across the global music industry.
The announcement comes months after Niniola dismissed rumours that she had secretly gotten married.
Speaking during an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the singer denied claims that she was hiding her marriage to protect her career or secure bookings.
She said, “I don’t care whatever anyone says about my personal life. I’m old enough to say whatever I want with confidence. I’m not married.”
