Democracy is simply and generally defined as the government of the people, by the people and for the people. The strength of every good democracy depends on the quality of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary arms of the government.
The basis of my discussion here shall be based on the legislative arm of government with it’s primary duty of law making for the entire citizenry.
For any democracy to worth its sort, every member of the parliament must be carefully selected and elected towards ensuring quality and adequate representation of the electorates.
Appropriation, Plenaries and Oversight (APO) are the basic functions of the National Assembly, Nigeria as a case study.
Ogun east senatorial district from time immemorial has been blessed with very distinguished Senators that have passion for quality representation and good /credible public service.
The likes of Senators Abraham Adesanya, Jubril Martins Kuye, Gbenga Kaka, Lekan Mustapha, Buruji Kachamu, Biyi Durojaye to mention but a few have all performed wonderfully well while in office. Up till now, their various legacies are well spread across the length and breath of Ijebu/Remo districts.
The 2023 general election gave the good people of Ogun east another opportunity to feature another credible and very versatile Senator in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly in the person of His Excellency, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD)
Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) was the former Ogun State Governor (2003 – 2011), credited with various landmark and unprecedented records of achievements cum evergreen legacy projects spread all over Ogun state
The efforts and impacts of Otunba Gbenga Daniel as a member of the Red Chamber of the National Assembly have been very unique, excellent and very remarkable in all senses.
Ogun east senatorial district has never have it so good in terms of adequate and quality representations, wide spread of the dividends of democracy, human/capital developments.
The various initiatives of Senator Gbenga Daniel in his efforts towards making lives more meaningful to his constituents include but not limited to support for farmers in the area of provision of tractors, farm implements, quality seeds, weed control chemicals/pumps, fertilizers, trainings and grants.
The market men/women and artisans constantly benefit from interest free microcredit scheme, trainings, empowerments and
grants.
The Teachers also regularly benefit from OGD Laptop Computers, trainings and grants.
There is regular scholarship scheme for indigent students that are in various tertiary institutions.
The youths/young graduates are not left out of OGD empowerments, trainings, grants and employments opportunities.
Many of our youths that have been adequately trained and empowered are now well established while many of our young graduates are now gainfully employed with the help and support of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel – OGD
The ongoing monthly free eyes test, care and surgery for the needs is another good initiative from Senator Daniel towards assisting the less privileged in the society.
Other efforts of Senator Daniel include the ongoing construction of a Naval Base in Ogun Waterside, the motions for the establishments of a Federal Medical Center, Federal College of Aviation, Federal University of Health Science etc which have all reached advance stages in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
Another achievement of Senator Daniel is the establishment of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) where he played prominent/lead role.
Senator Gbenga Daniel as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy is performing creditably well to the admiration of all and sundry in the Nigeria Navy. Senator Daniel has won many medals and awards in this regard.
Our very much anticipated Ijebu State out of the present Ogun state will definitely gain more prominence and strength towards it’s realization by the time Senator Daniel is returned for his 2nd term in office by God grace
The Nigeria constitution has not placed any time limit on the lawmakers considering the place of experience, the longer the better especially for those that are doing wonderfully well like OGD
As we approach the 2027 general election, it will not be out of place to beacon on the good people of Ogun east (Ijebu/Remo)to once again support and vote maximally for Otunba Gbenga Daniel OGD while ensuring that OGD is returned to the Red Chamber of the National Assembly to complete all his wonderful assignments for the betterment of all of us.
Another good reason while we must return Senator Daniel is for Ogun east to have a Ranking Senator come 2027.
The benefit of a Ranking Senator are enormous. OGD as a ranking Senator come 2027 by God grace will have opportunity of being one the Principal Officer in the National Assembly. Once this happened God’s willing, Ogun east will be better positioned to have access to more dividends of democracy. Experience is the best teacher.
By the time Senator Daniel is return to the Red Chamber for the 2nd term come 2027, Ogun east will definitely move to the next level of the ladder with much more benefits and opportunities for all of us.
God forbid that we allow any substandard/ desperate politician with questionable academic records to draw us backward come 2027
Anyway, Ogun east of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo is known for the best.
The good people of Ogun east are much more versatile, educated and well exposed beyond settling for a substandard as a lawmaker.
Today, close to 90% of the public Institutions and facilities spread across Ogun east were facilitated by Otunba Gbenga Daniel OGD
