Ayinba Joy Adams, the new wife of Aare Ona Kakanfo Gani Adams, has shared the story of how she met her husband at Lagos airport as the couple celebrates their first wedding anniversary. The 33-year-old former beauty queen married the Yoruba cultural leader in a private ceremony in December 2023, following his separation from his first wife of over two decades, Erelu Mojisola.
In a recent interview with The Sun on Sunday, Ayinba Joy, who won the Most Beautiful Girl in Urhobo land title in 2012, recounted their chance encounter at the airport. “He approached me when I was trying to check in for my flight. That was when we started talking, about three or four years ago,” she revealed.
Interestingly, Joy, a Delta State University graduate, was initially unaware of Adams’ prestigious position as the Aare Ona Kakanfo. “I didn’t know who he was at first,” she admitted. What drew her to him was his personality. “The attraction was his charisma. He has this strict personality about him. He likes to listen to people and doesn’t like people being oppressed. He can go out of his way just to please you.”
Despite his prominent traditional title, Joy emphasized that their relationship has remained grounded. “We live like regular people. He acts like a regular man, and it has always been a normal relationship,” she said. While acknowledging that no one is perfect, she expressed contentment with their relationship, noting that any flaws are simply part of being human.
The Delta State-born Ayinba Joy, who was raised in Lagos, graduated from Delta State University in 2014 before her paths crossed with the Yoruba cultural leader.
