Henry Okoye, elder brother of the former P-Square music duo, has revealed that their late mother, Josephine Okoye, opposed the decision to make Jude Okoye the manager of Peter and Paul Okoye during the early years of their music career.
Henry made the disclosure during an interview with social commentator Jos Connection at the Okoye family residence in Plateau State on Friday.
According to him, he was among the family members who supported Peter and Paul financially when they were still struggling to establish themselves in the Nigerian music industry.
Henry said Jude was not involved when the duo began their musical journey and when the family was searching for sponsors to support their career.
He recalled that he personally sponsored some of their early activities, including performances and trips to different states, before Jude later became involved in managing the group.
“When they started music, they were looking for sponsors but could not find anyone. When I started sponsoring them, Jude was not there,” Henry said.
He explained that he was the one who took Peter and Paul to the stadium when Benson & Hedges came to Jos in search of artistes for a performance.
Henry also recalled how members of the family supported the duo by travelling with them, distributing flyers and helping to collect gate fees during their early performances.
He said the family regarded their involvement as a form of support for Peter and Paul, whom they recognised as the owners of their music career.
According to him, the situation changed when Jude eventually expressed interest in managing the duo.
“They started making money bit by bit. Jude came in and said he wanted to manage them. We allowed Jude, but my mum disagreed,” he said.
Henry further claimed that Peter and Paul had initially promised him a 20 per cent share once they became financially successful, but alleged that Jude later intervened and cancelled the arrangement.
He said he questioned Jude’s involvement because, according to him, Jude had not been part of the group’s early struggles.
“I challenged him that he wasn’t there when we started everything but now he was chasing everybody away from them,” Henry said.
The elder Okoye also spoke about the strained relationship between the siblings, particularly the changes he said he noticed in Paul.
Henry described Paul as previously being one of the kindest members of the family and said his alleged change in attitude was surprising to him.
He expressed hope that Peter and Paul could eventually reunite, although he admitted that he was not optimistic about the possibility.
“I will be happy for them to come back together, but I don’t think it will happen. Paul was a very kind person,” he said.
Henry also appealed to Jude to take steps toward resolving the disagreements among the siblings and helping restore peace within the family.
He noted that their eldest brother, Christopher, had chosen not to get involved in the dispute because of his religious convictions.
The Okoye family has been involved in a series of public disagreements following the breakdown of P-Square.
Peter and Paul, who rose to prominence as one of Africa’s most successful musical duos, effectively separated in 2017 after years of working together. They reunited in 2021 but experienced another major disagreement in 2024.
The prolonged dispute also had legal consequences for Jude Okoye. In 2025, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned him over allegations involving ₦1.38 billion, $1 million and £34,537.59.
Jude pleaded not guilty to the allegations, and the case remains before the court.
The latest comments from Henry have once again brought attention to the longstanding disagreements within the Okoye family and the circumstances surrounding the management of P-Square during the group’s rise to fame.
