The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced nationwide screening of aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, which began on Tuesday, covers individuals seeking the party’s tickets for presidential, governorship, and legislative offices.
According to a party statement, screening of senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly aspirants is currently ongoing at designated centres across the country. Meanwhile, presidential and governorship hopefuls are being screened at the national level in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The PDP explained that the process is part of preparations for the 2027 elections, ensuring that all candidates meet the party’s requirements before primary contests.
Earlier reports indicated that the party is expected to screen about 3,181 aspirants across various categories, including over 2,000 for state assemblies, 748 for the House of Representatives, 198 for the Senate, 112 governorship aspirants, and one presidential aspirant.
The party said screening committees and appeal panels have been set up in line with its approved timetable for the election cycle.
