On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the family of the late Pa Amos Ojekunle Oliyide gathered to lay their patriarch to rest in a grand and memorable ceremony. Born on February 18, 1940, Pa Oliyide passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of family and community.
The funeral proceedings were a distinguished event that drew numerous dignitaries, including Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, and former governor of Ogun State. The ceremony was particularly significant as it also served as a remembrance service for Mrs. Florence Adebola Oliyide (née Tonade), the late mother of Steve Oliyide, who passed away on November 20, 1978.
The memorial events unfolded over several days:
- A solemn wake-keep was held on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the family home located at No. 14, Olaboopo Daramola Close, Sango Ota, Ogun State.
- On Friday, November 29, 2024, a funeral outing and thanksgiving service took place at St. Stephen’s African Church in Abule Tuntun, Iroko Town, Lagos. The service was notably attended by Otunba Gbenga Daniel and other distinguished guests, highlighting the family’s respected status in the community.
Following the church service, Pa Oliyide was laid to rest in an intimate interment ceremony at the family residence. This private moment allowed close family members to bid their final, heartfelt goodbyes to their beloved patriarch.
Later that day, a reception was held at MHQ Events Centre, located opposite Rhema Church in Temidire, Sango Ota, Ogun State. Friends, family, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the life of Pa Oliyide and to honor the enduring memory of Mrs. Florence Oliyide.
Steve Oliyide, one of Pa Oliyide’s children and a media aide to Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, played a significant role in commemorating his parents’ lives and preserving their legacy.
