The Katsina State Government has approved a ₦3.8 billion loan to secure 3,890 Hajj seats for intending pilgrims participating in the 2026 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Governor Dikko Radda announced the development on Sunday in Katsina during a farewell ceremony organised for pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land.

According to him, the intervention became necessary after the state initially struggled to meet its allocated Hajj slots through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

Radda explained that the loan enabled the state to fully secure its quota for the exercise, ensuring that all allocated slots were covered.

“I was informed that the state initially had difficulty meeting its allocated Hajj slots. In response, we approved a ₦3.8 billion loan, which enabled Katsina State to secure and fill 3,890 slots for this year’s Hajj,” he said.

The governor also urged the pilgrims to use their time in Saudi Arabia for prayers for peace, unity, and improved security in Katsina State and Nigeria.

As part of welfare measures, Radda announced that the state would sponsor Hadaya for all pilgrims and provide each participant with a $500 allowance to cover basic needs during the pilgrimage.

He further disclosed that 200 officials had been deployed to support the pilgrims with spiritual guidance, medical care, and logistics throughout the exercise.

“We have carefully selected and equipped all officials to support pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage,” he said.

Radda noted that his administration had strengthened the State Pilgrims Welfare Board to improve efficiency and address past challenges in Hajj operations.

He also directed strict supervision and accountability for all officials involved, stressing the need for discipline and proper conduct.

The governor reminded pilgrims to serve as good ambassadors of the state and the country, urging them to show patience, discipline, and respect while in the Holy Land.

He cautioned against spreading misinformation during the pilgrimage and advised them to communicate responsibly.

Radda also confirmed improvements in accommodation and feeding arrangements, stating that his administration had taken steps to ensure a more organised and comfortable Hajj experience.

He assured that the government would continue to prioritise the safety, welfare, and overall wellbeing of all Katsina pilgrims throughout the exercise.
