Professor Wole Alamu, husband of Oriire High School principal Mrs Rachel Alamu, has called on Nigerians to join hands in combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country following the successful rescue of his wife and other abducted victims.
Mrs Alamu was among seven teachers and 39 students kidnapped in Oyo State before they were rescued by a joint team of security operatives on Friday.
In a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of his family, Prof Alamu expressed gratitude to God and Nigerians at home and abroad for their prayers, encouragement, and support throughout the ordeal.
He said the overwhelming show of solidarity from people across different parts of the country had strengthened the family’s belief in the unity and compassion of Nigerians.
Prof Alamu stressed that the fight against insecurity should transcend religion, ethnicity, gender, and political differences, urging citizens to work together to end kidnapping and other criminal activities threatening lives and livelihoods.
The family also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and other stakeholders for their efforts in securing the release of the victims and standing by the family during the difficult period.
While celebrating the safe return of the rescued victims, Prof Alamu sympathised with families who lost loved ones during the attack and prayed for the safe release of others still being held captive by kidnappers across the country.
He called for renewed commitment to building a safer Nigeria where citizens can pursue their aspirations without fear, expressing hope for a peaceful and secure nation that promotes both individual and national prosperity.
