Nollywood veteran, Richard Mofe-Damijo’s debut movie as Executive Producer, “Radio Voice,” has made an impressive entry at the Nigerian box office, grossing N34.7 million in just seven days after its release.
The impressive figure, monitored by the Nigerian Box Office data service between April 11 and 17, confirms how much RMD is loved and appreciated by Nollywood fans who not only salute his acting talent but just cannot have enough of him on their screens.
The movie signalled a new era in the popular actor’s four-decade-long career, with his production company, RMD Productions, collaborating with co-producers, Blessing Jessica Obasi and Yolanda Okereke, to show that Richard Mofe-Damijo is not only a talent in front of the cameras, he can more than hold his own off it as well.
With Isioma Osaje as director and Ufuoma Metitiri as co-writer, “Radio Voice” tells the story of a former prostitute who decides to find a new purpose by becoming an OAP. However, gaining complete freedom from her past came with serious emotional rollercoasters as she attempted to wriggle her way out of the politics of respectability/credibility at her new place of work.
The movie preaches resilience and women’s empowerment in media environments, and its star-studded cast includes Nse Ikpe-Etim, Nancy Isime, Deyemi Okanlawon, Damilola Adegbite, and Timini Egbuson. Viewers can look forward to unique storytelling mixed with social realism, which definitely reflects the reality of Nigeria today.
RMD’s new project received massive institutional backing before its release, including support from the Office of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, which proves the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to the country’s creative sector.
Notably, the talented actor has also sealed a landmark distribution deal with Nile Entertainment, so while “Radio Voice” is about to enjoy an extended rollout across several West African cinemas, his upcoming project, “Revelations,” will premiere at a major international film festival ahead of its commercial release.
