Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has surprised guests and fashion enthusiasts after making an unexpected appearance on the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week.
The governor joined Nigerian fashion designer, Ugo Monye, during his fashion presentation on Saturday, walking alongside professional models in one of the designer’s collections.
His appearance attracted loud cheers and excitement from guests, making it one of the major highlights of the fashion event.
Photographs and videos from the show, which have since circulated on social media, captured Sanwo-Olu confidently walking down the runway in an outfit designed by Monye.
The governor’s participation was seen as a demonstration of his administration’s support for the creative industry, particularly the fashion sector, which plays an important role in promoting Lagos State’s cultural identity and economic growth.
Reacting to his appearance, Sanwo-Olu took to his official X account to explain that he temporarily stepped away from his regular government responsibilities to support the fashion designer.
He wrote: “I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture, and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth.”
Lagos Fashion Week is an annual fashion event founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele. It provides a platform for Nigerian and other African fashion designers to showcase their collections to international buyers, media organisations and fashion enthusiasts.
The event has continued to promote African creativity, encourage emerging designers and position Lagos as an important destination for fashion and cultural exhibitions.
