The Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND held a public hearing on a bill proposing the establishment of a Federal College of Aviation Technology in Ilara Remo, Ogun State. The bill, sponsored by Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, advanced to the public hearing stage along with four other bills after passing its second reading in the Senate.
During the hearing, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Gbenga Daniel, underscored the urgency of the establishment bill and assured that the Senate would thoroughly review it to ensure its success.
Senator Daniel emphasized that creating an aviation school in Ilara Remo would cater to the growing needs of Nigeria’s aviation sector. He pointed out that the college’s location, adjacent to Ilisan Remo, which hosts the Ogun Agro Cargo Airport, aligns with the aerotropolis development plans initiated during his tenure as Ogun State Governor.
Earlier in the day, Senator Daniel hosted a delegation of Remo land stakeholders at his Abuja residence. The delegation attended the public hearing to present their support for the aviation college.
The delegation included prominent figures such as High Chief Olukoya Sodunola, the Lisa of Ilara Remo; former Remo North Local Government chairman, Hon. John Obafemi; Hon. Dickson Awolaja of Remo North State Constituency; Hon. Omoba Damilare Bello of Sagamu State Constituency II; and representatives from the Ilara Development Association, among other dignitaries.
