Select federal lawmakers recently participated in a comprehensive training session on Security Sector Governance at the DCAF: Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance in Switzerland, in a move aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s security apparatus and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Led by prominent figures in Nigeria’s legislative landscape, including His Excellency Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, and former Senate President Ahmed Lawan, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Defence, the delegation engaged in a series of insightful sessions to broaden their understanding of critical security sector issues.
The delegation also included Senator Col Abdulaziz Musa Yar adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, Hon Jimi Benson, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Hon Abdullahi Mamudu, Chairman of the House Committee on the Army, and Hon Makki Abubakar, Chairman of the House Committee on Police. The participants were joined by distinguished individuals such as Prof Abubakar Sulaiman, Anne Bennett (Head SSAD), and Hans Born (Head of Dept) at the training session.
The program, hosted by the DCAF, a renowned institution specializing in security sector governance, covered a wide range of topics crucial to the effective oversight and management of national security. Discussions delved into contemporary security challenges, strategic planning, and best practices in security sector governance.
The lawmakers expressed their commitment to leveraging the knowledge gained during the training to contribute effectively to the development and implementation of policies that will enhance Nigeria’s security infrastructure. The initiative underscores a collaborative approach between national and international stakeholders in addressing security concerns and fostering a safer environment for all Nigerians.
