Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate, raised concerns on Sunday regarding President Bola Tinubu’s health, suggesting the leader is managing an undisclosed medical condition.
Sowore also made claims about Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s health status, describing it as critical.
His comments came as he questioned the circumstances surrounding Tinubu’s unexpected departure from Nigeria to Europe on Sunday. The president had been in Lagos State celebrating the Christmas and New Year period before leaving the country.
According to a statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s trip includes an official visit to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The president is scheduled to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit following an invitation from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore wrote: “Nigeria’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unwell just managing himself, reason he’s abruptly flown to ‘Europe’ today @Senator_Akpabio is practically dying, why is Nigeria governed by sick people? And whereas nothing is wrong with illnesses it is callous to use a country as health insurance for sick leaders.”
