As the Federal Capital Territory prepares for Area Council elections in February 2026, Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye has embarked on courtesy visits to traditional rulers across Abuja, emphasizing the importance of peaceful democratic participation.
CP Dantawaye met with prominent traditional leaders, including Alhaji Dr. Usman Nga Kupi, the Sa’peyi of Garki District, and Alhaji Dr. Haruna Tanko Jibrin, the Gomo of Kuje. These engagements brought together 36 village heads from Garki District and 124 from Kuje Area Council.
During the meetings, the Police Commissioner stressed that elections should never be approached with a do-or-die mentality. He reminded attendees that democracy provides ongoing opportunities for civic engagement and leadership, and emphasized that no election result warrants violence or disorder.
FCT Command spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh stated that CP Dantawaye underscored the need for peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and collective responsibility as political activities intensify in the coming months.
The Police Commissioner outlined the Command’s primary goal: ensuring peaceful, credible, and violence-free elections throughout the FCT. He called on traditional institutions to leverage their influence in educating community members to reject violence, resist misinformation, and cooperate with security agencies throughout the electoral period.
CP Dantawaye explained that these visits form part of the Command’s community-oriented policing strategy, designed to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and local communities while boosting peace, security, and public trust in the Federal Capital Territory.
Residents are encouraged to report emergencies and suspicious activities via the Police Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
