Popular Canadian singer and songwriter Grimes has blasted online trolls for bullying fellow artist Selena Gomez. This comes after a social media user shared screenshots from Selena’s “In the Dark” music video and claimed she looked like an “X Files Monster”.
Reacting via her X account, Grimes revealed that the cruel post made her consider leaving the platform altogether.
According to her, misrepresenting how Selena Gomez looks just to troll her online is one of the most vile things anyone can do, and it is sad to see such evil posts blow up on the internet.
Grimes then advised social media users to avoid chasing clout at the expense of people’s mental health.
“Watched this Selena Gomez video, besides a few weird derp shots that ppl were able to clip and super misrepresent how she looks she looks extremely beautiful, is prob one of the most beautiful girls.
Imagine what it wud feel like if people talked about you this way (sic).
Try to imagine the mental fortitude she presumably has.
How do we not utterly morally castigate someone who has a post like this blows up and chooses to keep the clout at the expense of everybodies mental health (sic).
How do u think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman?” she wrote.
The songstress further noted that high school-level bullying should never be normalized on social media.
She concluded by saying that the internet is becoming an unhealthy place because of the hatred people keep spreading online.
“Accounts shud be suspended for body shaming en masse (sic).
This is disturbing – in part because it’s not even true if u actually watch this video.
Im not rly in the biz of even knowing what celebrities do, i have no context here, but this place is unhealthy as f**k and this being socially acceptable behavior is culture death – not just for the Selena or the writer but everyone who sees this and engages with this level of dehumanization,” she added.
