Popular Nigerian writer and life coach Solomon Buchi has reacted to a viral clip of Mr. Macaroni’s trending perfume collection.
He recently warned against the culture of glorifying excessive luxury, and Nigerians have been reacting.
Reacting via his social media page, Buchi said that a man having 40 perfumes from different brands is not cute in any way because no guy should need that many colognes to smell nice.
He revealed that the recent glorification of vanity online forced him to come out and urge Nigerians to avoid promoting a culture of unrealistic materialism.
The internet personality maintained that even owning 40 sneakers or 40 shoes is simply excessive, and should not be hailed as something impressive.
“This is not cute… We’re promoting a culture of unrealistic materialism. Nobody needs 40 perfumes, 40 sneakers, or 40 shoes — nobody,” he wrote.
Without taking any direct shot at anyone, Buchi emphasised how the wrong kind of content can affect young people who will end up comparing their lives with exaggerated online standards.
He advised his fellow citizens to avoid wasting money on excessive luxury, insisting that not spending on such things doesn’t mean you’re broke, it only shows that your needs are more important than your wants.
“You’re not broke — you just don’t need what you want to buy. Consumerism is becoming the god of our time, and it’s killing us slowly. You don’t need it. You’re doing well,” he added.
