Sultan Of Sokoto Congratulates Lawan Sani On Emergence As New Emir Of Gumel

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani on his emergence as the new Emir of Gumel.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Sultan described the peaceful, orderly and timely process that produced the new monarch as a laudable development, calling it proof of the traditional institution’s enduring strength.

Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani takes over as Sarkin Gumel following the death of his father, Emir Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, September 3, after a 46-year reign.

The Sultan prayed for divine wisdom, strength and guidance for the new Emir as he takes on the responsibilities of the throne. As President of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, he also urged the monarch to uphold the dignity and traditions of the Gumel Emirate and build on the legacy left by his predecessor.

He further charged the new Emir to prioritise peace, unity, justice and development among his subjects, and to maintain cordial relations with neighbouring emirates, government authorities and communities within and outside the emirate.

In the statement, made available to newsmen by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the Sultan said the traditional institution remains a vital pillar of peace, stability and social cohesion, especially at a time when communities need responsible and purposeful leadership.

He called on the people of Gumel Emirate to rally behind their new ruler, noting that the strength of any traditional institution rests on the unity and loyalty of its subjects.

The Sultan also prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Emir, asking Allah to reward him for his decades of service and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while praying for a long, peaceful and successful reign for the new Emir.
