Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Salau Aliu Olayiwola, widely known as Testimony Jaga, has reacted strongly to comments made by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo regarding the “prosperity gospel.”
Osinbajo had recently sparked discussion within religious and public circles after criticising what he described as the prosperity gospel, a position that has continued to generate mixed reactions.
Responding in a viral video, Jaga rejected the idea of dividing Christian teachings into categories, insisting that the message of the gospel is singular and unified.
He said, “With due respect, there is nothing like a prosperity gospel. There is only one gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
The singer also questioned Osinbajo’s authority to speak on matters concerning the Church, referencing his time in public office and calling for accountability on his achievements.
“If anyone is going to correct the body of Christ, it should not be someone like you. Let Nigerians see what you achieved as Vice President,” he stated.
Jaga further brought attention to Nigeria’s economic challenges, arguing that poverty remains a major issue that religious messages should not overlook.
He asked what efforts had been made to address hardship in the country, stressing the need for leaders to demonstrate practical solutions.
According to him, Christian preaching should focus on hope and encouragement rather than condemnation.
“The gospel is good news. People facing difficulties need messages of upliftment, not negativity,” he said.
While acknowledging that there are abuses within religious circles, Jaga warned against using such cases to generalise or discredit the Christian faith.
He added that despite the presence of fake ministers, the core message of Christianity remains one of transformation and hope.
Jaga concluded by urging Osinbajo to demonstrate the values he promotes by supporting the less privileged and showing tangible impact both in public service and ministry.
