A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, Otuekong John, has blasted the politicians who are challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential elections.
He recently revealed that their criticism is motivated by their own personal vendetta, not national interest.
Speaking via a press statement titled “Northern Interest aligned with President Tinubu’s re-election bid,” John, who is the Director General of the APC Media Network, said that the forthcoming 2027 election would be a vital juncture in the country’s democratic journey.
According to him, Tinubu’s government has focused on fair and even development across Nigeria, and those opposing him are only doing so for their selfish reasons.
He urged Nigerians to ignore the recycled politicians and their criticism because they do not have better plans for Nigeria.
“The All Progressives Congress Media Network notes that the 2027 presidential election is shaping up to be a critical juncture in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
As the nation looks towards the future, it’s essential to consider the implications of leadership choices on regional power dynamics. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s groundbreaking achievements have earned him the mandate for reelection.
His administration has ensured fair and even development across the country, a testament to his leadership. Those opposing him are driven by selfish interests or personal vendettas rather than the nation’s welfare.
It’s noteworthy that among the recycled politicians aspiring to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 elections, none can assuredly be said to have better plans for Nigeria. Their campaigns are built more on rhetoric and criticisms rather than concrete policy proposals,” he wrote.
John further noted that Tinubu’s re-election bid is the most pragmatic path towards guaranteeing a peaceful transfer of power to the North in 2031.
He concluded by saying that any other outcome would spell doom for the region, and would most likely postpone their turn to 2035.
“It would be naive and foolhardy for any Northerner to challenge President Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027, given the North’s uninterrupted eight-year tenure under President Muhammadu Buhari, which he handed over to President Tinubu. Given this reality, it is only logical for Northern leaders to support President Tinubu’s second-term bid and position themselves for a return to power in 2031.
We firmly believe that President Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 is the most pragmatic path to ensuring a peaceful transfer of power to the North in 2031, in line with the rotational principle that has guided our nation’s politics.
Moreover, we observe that claims by Southern politicians of voluntarily relinquishing power after a single term are nothing but a ruse to lure unsuspecting Nigerians into supporting their ambitions. History has shown that once in power, politicians often prioritise their interests over their campaign promises,” he added.
